About Us

Who We Are

SPOKES AFRICA is a refugee-led, youth-driven non-profit organization founded in 2023 and legally registered in 2024 to respond to the real challenges faced by refugee and host community youth and women in Africa. The organization was formed by young social entrepreneurs from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi together with youth from host communities in Uganda who chose to take action and create practical solutions that improve lives within their communities.

SPOKES AFRICA focuses on building opportunities where they are limited by expanding access to education, strengthening skills, and supporting sustainable livelihoods. The organization connects vulnerable youth and women to training, mentorship, and community support systems that help them become self-reliant and active contributors to social and economic development. Every program is designed to address poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion while creating pathways to stability and long term growth.

The work of SPOKES AFRICA centers on inclusive economic empowerment, climate and environmental action, sustainable agriculture, education, and social protection. Through these areas, the organization supports young people and women to gain practical skills, start small businesses, continue their education, and participate in community development efforts that improve living conditions in refugee settlements and host communities.

Our Mission

To provide facilitation and capacity building that will enable youth and women engage in global development initiatives.

Our Vision

To create a self-sustaining generation of youths and women in Africa.

Our Core Values

Our Story

SPOKES AFRICA started with a small group of refugee and host community youth who saw the daily struggles in refugee settlements and decided to take responsibility for change.

Many young people lacked access to education, skills training, and income opportunities, which pushed them into poverty and dependency.

Instead of waiting for outside solutions, the founders came together to create a community-driven organization that focuses on practical support, learning, and economic empowerment.

The organization grew from grassroots community activities such as youth meetings, mentorship sessions, and small training programs into a structured non-profit that now works to connect vulnerable youth and women to education, skills development, and livelihood opportunities.

SPOKES AFRICA continues to expand its reach by working closely with communities, local leaders, and development partners to ensure that every program responds to real needs on the ground.

SPOKES AFRICA believes that young people and women are not just beneficiaries but drivers of change.

By equipping them with knowledge, skills, and support, the organization builds a generation that can sustain itself, support others, and contribute to a stronger and more stable Africa.

Who We Work With

SPOKES AFRICA works with refugee youth, women, vulnerable children, and host community members across refugee settlements and surrounding communities. The organization focuses on young people aged between 12 and 35 years, women seeking economic independence, and vulnerable children who need support to access education and protection services.

The organization also works with community leaders, schools, local organizations, and development partners to strengthen programs and expand opportunities for beneficiaries.

Our Approach

SPOKES AFRICA focuses on practical and community-based solutions that create long term impact. The organization works directly with refugee and host communities to identify challenges, design programs, and deliver support that improves education, livelihoods, and social protection.

The approach combines training, mentorship, community engagement, and partnerships to ensure that youth and women gain the skills and support they need to become self-reliant. Programs are designed to build confidence, strengthen leadership, and create income opportunities while promoting social responsibility and community development.

This approach allows SPOKES AFRICA to respond quickly to community needs while maintaining a clear focus on sustainable growth and empowerment.
